On being a Paul

In our world of analogies, a "Paul" is a spiritual leader - not necessarily a teacher, but a shepherd who promotes the Word of the Lord and inevitably disciples his followers to do the same with their own brotherhood. The common theme and urge to this flock of Paul's is that the church would 1) follow the example set forth by Paul and his team so that 2) they themselves would be an example. Paul also requests prayer for the swift action and commencement of the word of the Lord and for deliverance from man's hand.

He redirects his and their sights to the Lord for His promises (His Word [John 17:5, 1 Corinthians 1:9, 2 Peter 2:9]) and His authority.

Then, Paul asks the Lord to take leadership of their hearts as he extends his final admonition.

This demonstrates how we ought to commence in our spiritual walks, especially in the presence of a person whom we have taken under our spiritual mom/dad wing:

  1. Ask for prayer regarding the furtherment of His Kingdom

  2. Rely on and trust in God

  3. Ask it of the Lord, whatever "it" may be

Paul's final admonition is this: Withdraw from every brother whose conduct is disorderly (out of place, not in line with duty, fruitless), not according to the tradition Paul showed. If someone does not work, that person should not eat. Perhaps this is two-sided. The physical does mirror the spiritual.

Paul goes on to tell readers to note the fruitless person and forsake fellowship with that person in such a way that yields to brotherly admonition. He reminds the believers that this may be wearisome, but that they should not discontinue the good work that is glorifying the Lord in them, which is the ultimate concept.

The podcast this week will delve further into the third and concluding chapter of 2 Thessalonians, a "final word" of sorts, from Paul that ties a nice bow around the premise of his previous messages to the church of Thessalonica. Podcasts are published weekly on Thursdays and are available wherever you listen. Thank you for tuning in and for sharing as we watch "the word of the Lord run swiftly and be glorified, just as it is with you." ;)
