Fixed

I still remember the defeated look on my daughter’s face when we were talking about something going on in the world driving to school one morning. She said, “We’re never gonna be able to fix it, Mom. Everyone who tries just keeps messing it up more!” I felt the Holy Spirit pause me before responding. “You’re right. There’s only one person who can fix it and that is the Lord. We are all too full of ourselves to do it His way.” I went on to explain how every system had its flaws and how there wasn’t anything she would ever find on this earth that was run perfectly - school, politics, even churches. All systems are created by people, and people will always let you down.
It’s not always our fault. From the day we are born the world starts selling us things like “Follow your heart,” “Do what makes you happy,” “How does that make you feel?” “Live your truth.”
Seems innocent enough, but is it?
“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is?
Jeremiah 17:9
We’ve created generations of human beings who are out there seeking themselves and we wonder why we are at constant war with one another. We even have churches selling the idea that worship is somehow about us. I know this because I’ve been one of those people standing in a sanctuary saying, “I wasn’t feeling that one.”
Who do we think we are?!
Why hasn’t He given up on us and put a stop to this already?
Love.
Grace.
Mercy.
That’s why.
He loves us so much that He sent His son to die on a cross for every single one of our sins and has literally given us thousands of years to figure it out. He keeps giving us chance after chance after chance to choose Him over our own selfish desires.
And we’re just over here thinking the world somehow revolves around us..
You know, I’ve seen Him bless me even when I wasn’t doing things His way. It breaks His heart when we aren’t in His will, but He is such a gentleman that He gives us time to ‘get there.’
He really is so faithful.
Why aren’t we?
Let me tell you a little secret. Once you finally do set your flesh to the side and align your life to His ways, that’s when the real ‘fixing’ begins.
Don’t get me wrong. It won’t always be easy. It’s called the ‘narrow road’ for a reason. The choices you make will be hard at times. You won’t always get it right and you’ll probably offend some people. The enemy will most definitely come after you, because you’ll suddenly become a threat to his agenda.
But, you won’t be left to do it alone.
The Lord will bestow upon you His supernatural peace, strength, and perseverance. There will be days filled with heart wrenching pain when He’ll allow things you’ll never understand, and then there will be miracles and impossibilities that only He could make possible.
Oh, but when you choose to trust Him through it all….
You can live with joy and purpose.
He will give you opportunity after opportunity to provide hope, prayer, and encouragement to others.
Things you thought you’d never be able to quit will suddenly become repulsive to you.
He will provide for you a way out when temptation is knocking at your door.
Something you thought you had to have right away will become an honor to wait for.
What you fear you may fail at alone, He will gently lead you to succeed in.
What used to separate no longer holds any power and there is unity instead.
What was considered ‘left’ or ‘right’ now becomes crystal clear as ‘man-made’ labels only meant to cause division.
The scales will begin to fall from your eyes and you’ll see that our enemy was never each other.
It was the one trying to get us to set our eyes on ourselves long enough that we no longer saw the truth.
The truth:
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas.”
Hebrews 13:8-9
He doesn’t alter himself to fit US
He tailors us to fit unto His WORD.
Friends, that is how we keep from “messing it up more.”
We stop elevating ourselves above the throne of God.
We stand for truth even when it’s uncomfortable.
We don’t allow people to influence us, we allow His Word to change us.
We hit our knees and ask for forgiveness.
Every single one of us.
Then, we align ourselves to Him.
“So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up in honor.”
James 4:7-10
Then, and only then, would we ever have a chance of any of this being ‘fixed.’
Until all have heard.
